Gum Grafting

Gum recession happens when the gum tissue pulls back from the tooth, exposing the root. This can be caused by aggressive brushing, gum disease, grinding, or just genetics. When your roots are exposed, they're vulnerable to decay and sensitivity. Gum grafting is a procedure we use to restore the gum tissue and cover those exposed roots.

During the procedure, we take a small amount of gum tissue (usually from your palate) and carefully attach it to the area where gums have receded. As it heals, the graft integrates with your existing gum tissue, creating a fuller, more protective gum line. The transplanted tissue matches your natural gums and blends in over time.

Recovery takes 2-3 weeks, and it's important to follow aftercare instructions carefully so the graft takes hold. Once healed, your roots are protected, you'll have less sensitivity, and your smile will look more complete. For patients with multiple areas of recession, we can often graft several teeth in one appointment.
