The pinhole surgical technique is a newer, gentler way to treat gum recession without cutting, grafting, or stitches. Instead, we make a small hole in the gum above the receded area and use specialized instruments to gently reposition your existing gum tissue over the exposed root. Because there's no graft needed and no incisions, healing is much faster than traditional gum grafting.
During the procedure, local anesthesia keeps you comfortable while we carefully loosen the gum tissue and slide it down to cover the exposed part of the tooth. The tissue is then secured in place. Many patients appreciate that we can often treat multiple teeth in a single visit, and there are no stitches to remove.
Recovery is quick—most people feel back to normal within 24-48 hours. You can return to eating, brushing, and your regular activities almost immediately. The results are excellent: your root is protected, sensitivity decreases, and your smile looks fuller without the gap that recession created.
