Oral Biopsy

If we notice an unusual spot, bump, sore, or discoloration in your mouth that isn't healing normally, we may recommend a biopsy to find out what it is. An oral biopsy is a simple procedure where we take a tiny tissue sample from the suspicious area and send it to a lab for examination. It's the most reliable way to get a definitive diagnosis.

The biopsy itself is quick and involves minimal discomfort. We numb the area with local anesthesia, use a small instrument to collect a tiny sample of tissue, and it's done. There are no stitches in most cases, and healing is usually complete within 1-2 weeks. You'll get results within a few days, and we'll discuss what they mean and your next steps.

Many biopsies come back as benign findings—nothing to worry about. But it's always better to know for sure. If something is found that needs treatment, catching it early gives us the best chance to address it successfully. Early detection of any oral condition is crucial for your health.
